Mystery Book Collecting

Book collecting is a fun and popular hobby these days. You can certainly enjoy an eclectic mix of books to collect or you can specialize in something like Mystery novels. Since we love mysteries of all kinds, we are going to concentrate on collecting mysteries here.

You can collect for your own fun, which is what I love. I try to go for whole series of one detective or amateur sleuth or those from one author. I do this concentration mainly because I enjoy reading and re-reading some of the mysteries. Especially when they build on each other. It's enjoyable to me to go back and read the early books in a series, or just relive the fun and excitement of one particular episode in the life of the mystery solver.

But, collecting for profit has its merits. If you can get the first early works of a writer, always in hardback, you have the potential of getting some good profit from it. This is an investment, make no mistake. Hardbacks are the most expensive version of a book to get, but they are also the only ones that will appreciate in value for collectors.

You will have to do some speculation. It's difficult to know which authors are going to turn out to be great or prolific authors from their first mystery novel. And not all authors will be able to get their first book published in hardback. Your best option is to choose novels that you enjoy reading. That's where you start with mystery book collecting.
